Yoga For Creative Kids with Sara Tobin

March 12, 2010

 kids-yoga-2

It’s never too early to introduce your children to the joys and rewards of yoga!

This workshop will enhance each child’s physical and mental well being through practicing yoga in a fun-filled, engaging and imaginative way. Children will explore yoga poses and learn correct breathing and relaxation techniques to increase their strength, flexibility and focus. Yoga poses develop coordination skills that help to prevent injury during sports or other physical activities. The goal is to help everyone develop strong minds and bodies, and to learn to giggle and lighten up to release tension–which will keep the spirit bright and healthy. Children will enjoy the benefits of yoga for a full life ahead.

Sara has been teaching children acting and yoga for over fifteen years and creates a playful, safe environment for creative expression and thoughtful awareness.

Introduction to Conscious Embodied Awakening: For Living and Thriving in the 21st Century

What would your life look like if you weren’t constantly trying to escape the discomfort of being Human? Imagine feeling more than just okay with who you are, and how you’re showing up in the world.  Imagine taping into,  living from, and being guided by your own unique current in every aspect of your life, and feeling completely at home in your body. That’s just a taste of what begins to happen in an Embodied Awakening—and no amount reading, studying, or learning can bring you to this place. An embodied awakening is not a cognitive understanding, it’s a flood of consciousness that awakens every cell of your body to the presence of the Divine, and specifically to the Divine in YOU.

This class is taught by Rod Taylor and Geri Portnoy and will include meditation, eye gazing and other practices for heart awakening but does not include any asana practice.

Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Cost: $20 (sliding fee scale down to $12)

Rod Taylor, has been practicing and teaching awakening and meditation techniques for 40 years.  He has a Masters Degree in Adult Education and is a certified teacher of Waking Down in Mutuality; Pan Gu Shengong Qigong; and Transcendental Meditation.  In 2005, he experienced a remarkable shift into conscious embodied Awakening.  He realized his infinite, non-separate wholeness with all that is, simultaneously integrated with his finite, limited nature of individual self.  He now loves working with others to support their processes of awakening in wholeness.  For further information:  www.awakeninginwholeness.com

Geri Portnoy, is the Director and founder of Yoga Del Mar.    She holds a Master’s Degeree in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame and is a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher.  She has been practicing yoga and meditation for 15 years.  She is passionate about the evolutionary development of human beings and the confluence of that awakening with the next leap in human and planetary consciousness.

Yoga Trance Dance Fundraiser with Michelle Bouvier

February 17, 2010

Yoga Trance Dance is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga. Beginning with sahaja prana yoga, or the experience of prana initiating yogasanas, Yoga Trance Dance flows into an exploration of both guided and free-form, breath driven movement to liberate one’s creative life-force and intelligently cultivate embodied freedom.   We use the rhythm of the dance as our meditation and prayer, joining our hearts, spirit, and intention to fully embody all life has for us.  In this season of gathering with friends and family, we offer the ritual of this Yoga Trance Dance towards deepening the gratitude we have for our community in yoga and beyond.  Look forward to exhilarating World Music and ecstatic movement!

Come ready to sweat, smile, move and groove through both guided and spontaneous movement stemming from yoga and various dance forms, intended to open our bodies and spirits to the creative flow of the life force itself.  No experience (or confidence) necessary!  Wear clothing you can move in, please arrive on time, and bring a bottle of water for yourself.

Yoga and the Hips and Lower Back with Kerry Traylor

January 12, 2010

KerryYoga and the Hips and Lower Back: Establishing our Tap Roots

A Therapeutic Workshop with Kerry Traylor, R.Y.T.

Lower back and hip pain  – even for those who are young, healthy, and fit – are, unfortunately, two of the most common ailments that draw people to seek relief through yoga.   Yet the hips and lower back together embody the sacred bowl, or vessel, from which we draw our root energy and into which the breath of life descends and fills us.

Through the use of Anusara principles of alignment, basic anatomy, proper action in the poses, and breathing techniques, we will start to explore the range of motion and freedom in the hips and lower back and learn why the SACRUM is so SACRED…..as well as why the legs are the governors of the lower back.  We will discuss why the lower back and hips can be in pain so frequently and how to avoid stress and injury to that area.

Then we will arm you with a specific list of therapeutic exercises you can perform at home to correct the imbalances that make these areas hurt.  You will learn to be in charge of your own spine and hips’ health and well-being and learn to revel in the vitality of this sacred region of the body.

No previous experience necessary.  ALL levels of yoga are welcome, including rank beginners, and those with chronic pain.  Bring water, and a yoga mat.  All other materials will be supplied.

Kerry Traylor was certified to teach Anusara yoga in 2000 and has been teaching yoga since 1997 (with a brief hiatus for motherhood).   Kerry’s light-hearted, yet dymnaic style incorporates her dance background and her extensive knowledge of anatomy, therapeutics, and yoga philosophy.  As a former “stressed out” managemenet consultant, and a current mother of three children, she is particularly interested in introducing her students to yoga’s potential for spiritual renewal.

Saturday, May 22  1pm – 4pm

Cost:   $50 ($55 if paid less than one week in advance)

Anusara Yoga Immersion 2 with Geri Portnoy

August 27, 2009

Geri Portnoy - Anusara Immersion 2 at Yoga Del MarFor those students who have already taken Immersion 1 (either at Yoga Del Mar or elsewhere), Immersion 2 is a continuation and a deepening of the journey into Anusara Yoga. We will explore and embody the Universal Principles of Alignment at the next level through asana practice and hands on explorations. In addition special attention will be given to a deeper exploration of each of the loops. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali will be read, discussed, and contemplated viewing it from the more ancient Classical Yoga view as well as the more contemporary Tantric Yoga view.

Immersion 2 includes an exploration of the subtle energy system including the charkas and nadis. Additional meditation and pranayama practices will also be included.

Yoga is a journey of coming to know ourselves on a deeper and more intimate level. Ultimately it is a journey of awakening to recognize our own divinity and greatness. This Immersion provides opportunity through asana practice, journaling and small group work to explore your own depths and come into a deeper more harmonious relationship with your own True Self.

This Immersion is appropriate for students of all levels.

IMMERSION 2: DEEPENING THE JOURNEY
